Doyle "Rob" Walker Obituary

Doyle Robert Walker "Rob", son of Paul and Dolores (Shank) Walker was born on January 15, 1953 in Jefferson, Iowa and died February 22, 2024 at his home in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Rob grew up in Iowa on a farm northeast of Scranton.  During his childhood he enjoyed spending time with his Grandpa Shank, going to his Uncle Saba's bakery in Jefferson, helping his dad on the farm, fishing at the family cabin, studying U.S. history, collecting rocks, and playing with his brother, sister and cousins.

He attended school in Scranton.  Rob participated in Boy Scouts, played sports, and was member of the FFA.  While he was teenager, Rob was heavily involved in 4-H club and was honored to be elected and served as Greene County 4-H president.  He graduated from Scranton High School in 1971.  Rob attended college at Iowa State University earning a degree in Farm Management in 1975.  Rob later attended and graduated from Wisconsin School of Banking in 1983.

Rob married Susan Happe in 1974.  They had three children: Aaron, Carrie and Derek.  He made his home in Glidden, Iowa for 25 years where he raised his children.  He was a loan officer and president at First Bank & Trust in Glidden.  Rob was a proud member of the Glidden community where he was a 4-H leader, ticket seller at Glidden-Ralston football games and a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church.

After his kids were grown, Rob moved away from Glidden.  He was able to work in several other banks and was fortunate to experience new places and make new friendships.  Meeting new people and making connections was a passion he had.  Rob never met a stranger that didn't quickly become a friend.

For the past 12 years, Rob lived in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He was vice-president and branch manager at the Western National Bank branch in Peru, Nebraska.  One of his personal goals was to make everyone feel welcome and at ease whenever they walked through the doors of the bank.  He took the time to get to know each and every one of his customers personally, and they quickly became like family to him.  Rob loved working, took pride in his job and was grateful to be able to work up until his death.

In his past-time, Rob enjoyed going to the family cabin in northern Minnesota, mailing postcards to his grandkids, collecting coins, looking at tractors, studying genealogy, watching westerns, driving around the country side and meeting his many friends for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Rob's generous spirit, good intentions, and kind heart will never be forgotten, but forever remembered and missed by all fortunate to know him.

Rob is survived by his three children: Aaron Walker of Waukee, IA, Carrie (Paul) Vreeland of Loveland, OH and Derek Walker (Sarah) of Dallas Center, IA; 3 grandchildren, River, Rhett and Remi Vreeland of Loveland, OH, his mother Dolores Walker of rural Scranton, sister Jane(Chuck) Wendle of Greenwood, MN, several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his father Paul Walker, brother Jim Walker, maternal grandparents Doyle and Beulah Shank and paternal grandparents Loren and Eva Walker.

Private family services will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in Jefferson, Iowa.
