Dorothy Higgins Obituary

Dorothy Maxine Higgins, 88, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on July 28, 1931, in Humboldt, Nebraska to Lloyd and Katherine (Johnson) Moyer.  She was raised near Humboldt and attended country school through the 8th grade.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Jerry Higgins on April 14, 1951.  To this union three daughters, Penny, Connie and Cheryl were born.  The couple raised their family in Tecumseh, Nebraska before moving to Humboldt later in life.  Dorothy enjoyed word finds, playing bingo and was an avid Husker fan that would cheer on the football or volleyball team with passion.  She became a resident of the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt where she still kept her passion for the Husker teams.  Dorothy’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Dorothy passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019, at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City, Nebraska having reached the age of eighty-eight years, five months and two days.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, daughter Penny Woodside, brothers: Elmer (Mabel) Moyer, Walt (Willa) Moyer, Lloyd (Merle) Moyer Jr., Joy Moyer, Buck Moyer and Harry Moyer, sisters Josephine Tupper and Elizabeth (Clarence) Estle.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Connie Laflin of Humboldt, Cheryl (Mike) Koso of Falls City, grandchildren: Jennifer Kovarik of Lincoln, Matt (Dee) Kuhlmann of Table Rock, Sarah Tyler of Lincoln, Mike Kuhlmann of Table Rock, Melissa (Evan) Feighner of Falls City, Joe (Kristina) Koso of Falls City, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Beverly Moyer of Auburn, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the Humboldt Cemetery with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt.  Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the family with a later designation.
