Dorothy Bruns Obituary

Dorothy Mae Bruns, 94, of Burchard, Nebraska passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital.  She was born on February 6, 1927 to George and Anna Clara (Warnholz) Nordmeyer in Deshler, Nebraska. She lived in Johnson County through her childhood.  Dorothy was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

She was a nurses aide in Beatrice at the Lutheran Hospital but most of her life she was a homemaker and farm wife.

Dorothy went to school in Tecumseh through the 9th grade, then quit school, to help her parents on the farm and raise her younger siblings.  Her siblings looked up to her and she was their mentor.

Dorothy loved helping on the farm, milking cows and raising chickens. She had a very large garden, including a large strawberry patch and Dorothy enjoyed sharing garden produce with the neighbors.  Dorothy loved cooking, sewing, embroidery work and spending time with family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids. She also started the Easter egg hunt in Burchard and was there every year helping until her health would not allow her to be there.  Dorothy loved her community and she was a life-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Burchard, Nebraska. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Pawnee City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and sister Delores.
