Doris Wenzl Obituary

Doris Eileen (Tegtmeier) Wenzl died peacefully with family at her side Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.

Doris was born to her loving parents, the late Albert and Mabel Tegtmeier of DuBois. As a young girl living on "The DuBois Place" family farm, Doris grew in love of God and others, and here she discovered her call to farming. She loved being outdoors, caring for the farm animals, and the joy of watching the crops grow.

Doris graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1957 and continued to live and work on the family farm. She enjoyed attending socials, such as county fairs and dances. This is how friendship with Willard C. Wenzl began. On August 8, 1962, Willard and Doris were united in marriage at St. John’s Catholic Church in Table Rock. They raised their family out on the family farm three miles north of Pawnee City.

Doris was a devoted member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Steinauer, where she also served on the St. Ann's Altar Society. Doris was a hard-working farm wife, and very much enjoyed raising cattle, hogs and chickens. Family also appreciated all the great foods Doris prepared. Family cherishes the many acts of love shown throughout her life. She always made herself present to family through her loving prayers, hugs, visits, conversations and such. Doris’s cooking, baking, journaling, vibrant personality and especially her love will always remain in the hearts and souls of all her loved ones.

In later years, Doris remained on the farm until the challenges and tribulations of debilitating osteoarthritis took her in a different direction. Yet, Doris knew that keeping one’s eyes on the Crucifix of Jesus is essential. She kept her eyes firmly on Jesus, and in trusting Him, she did indeed die well. Jesus provided for her receiving the Last Rites of the Catholic Church on April 15, and as a special blessing she had her final tribulations during Holy Week and went to meet Jesus on Easter Sunday.

Doris loved faithfully attending Masses. In fact, it was with great effort she had attended Mass in person for the last time at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Easter Vigil of 2022. She felt blessed to continue to receive the Eucharist, even when homebound. Thus, it seems appropriate that she peacefully took her last breaths during the celebration of the 10:00 AM Easter Sunday Mass at St. Anthony’s, dying at 11:15 AM on April 20, 2025.

Doris's husband, Willard C. Wenzl, preceded her in death on September 8, 2010.Other family members preceding Doris in death include Charles and Nora Wenzl, Carol and Ernie Krikiva, Elda Tegtmeier and Mary Ann Blecha.

Doris and Willard are survived by three children: Alison Haug of Geneva; Terry A. Wenzl of Omaha; and Grant Wenzl of Pawnee City. Doris is remembered and loved by her many relatives and friends, including AI Haug of Seneca, Kansas; granddaughter Kelsey Walters, along with her husband Spencer and their children, Weston and Adalynn of Shickley; granddaughter Kali Haug of St. Petersburg, Florida; grandson Alex Haug of Chicago, Illinois;  other relatives and friends, Marjorie Wenzl of Table Rock; Kevin Krikava and Liz Borong of Pawnee City; Richard, Carolyn, Brenda, Marvin and Candy Blecha, all of Humboldt; Deb and Tom Grietens of Lincoln; David, Dedra, Kevin and Kris Blecha, all of Burchard.
