Donald Eugene Garris

Donald E. Garris, 92, of Tecumseh, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams, Nebraska. He was born to Donald and Ila Ruth (Gooch) Garris on May 19, 1930 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He moved with his parents and grew up in Oklahoma in the Oklahoma City area where he received his education.

He was united in marriage to Norma Jean "Bridge" Higgins.  This union was blessed with six children.  They made their home in Tecumseh where they raised their family.  Don worked for the City of Tecumseh Utilities Department, first at the Power Plant, then electrical and eventually the Water and Sewer Department where he retired as the Supervisor.  In all, Don dedicated over 50 years to the City of Tecumseh.  In his spare time, Don enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and deer hunting, both bow and rifle, and also quail and coyote hunting.  He passed his love of hunting onto his sons and later his grandchildren.  His wife Bridge passed away August 6, 1995.

Don is survived by his children, Vicki Mandery and husband Dave of Tecumseh, Dave Garris and wife Pat of Nebraska City, Jerry Garris and wife Arnette of Lincoln, Sheila Reed and husband Jim of Tecumseh, Tom Garris and wife Lori of Raymond and Tim Garris and wife Tracy of Oswego, KS, twelve grandchildren, Mike (Dea) Mandery, Laura (Bob) Kroll, Kathy Swanda, Matt (Erica) Garris, Zac (Mandi) Garris, Josh (Chrissy) Garris, Corey (Cyndia) Garris, Meggan Garris, Mark Reed, Ann (Brian) Britt, Tyler Garris and Ethan Garris, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma "Bridge" and brother Gerald Garris.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Grandson Corey Garris officiating. The service was livestreamed on the Wherry Mortuary Facebook page and a link to the livestream is now available at the bottom of Don's webpage.  

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

Inurnment will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska.
