Donald Lee Burgess, Sr.

Donald Lee Burgess, Sr., 82, formerly of Table Rock, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at the Homestead Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born on August 26, 1937 to Orville and Ethel (Wolfe) Burgess in DeWitt, Nebraska.

He was born and raised in DeWitt through the 5th grade.  His family then moved to Lincoln and Don attended and graduated from Lincoln High.

Don served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1959 and then he was in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1962. 

Don worked  as a load operator at Martin Marietta Aggregates, retiring in 2002. 

He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #5289 and the American Legion in DuBois, Nebraska.

Donald enjoyed being with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, camping and being with his friends. Don enjoyed driving around with his favorite companion Babe and just driving around the country side doing some sight seeing.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Ethel Burgess, son, Bobby Joe Burgess, brother, William Burgess, sister, Norma Jean Burgess. 

He is survived by his son Donald L. Burgess Jr. and wife Amy of DuBois, NE, daughter, Kimberly and husband Arlin Beethe of Elk Creek, NE, son, Gary  Ehmen and wife Mary of Lansing, MI, grandchildren, Derek Burgess and wife Kris, Brooke Walbridge and husband Derek, Danielle Berke and husband Blake, Cole Beethe and special friend Caitlin Peterson, Lance Beethe and wife Lyndsay, Spence Beethe and wife Ashley, Erin Vock and husband Tyler, Michael and Brittney Ehmen, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Graveside service 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at the DuBois Cemetery,  DuBois, Nebraska. Officiating Pastor Howard Blecha.  Register book will be available for signing from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2020 at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Memorials to family choice or Hearts United For Animals Rescue in Auburn, Nebraska. Military honors provided by American Legion Post #39 of DuBois and the Nebraska Army National Guard Honor Guard.
