Debra Kay Cumro, 58, of Princeton, Nebraska, formerly of Summerfield, Kansas, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023. She was born on December 22, 1964 to Dr. Dennis Edward and Wilma Jeanette (Fisher) Cumro in Pawnee City, Nebraska.
Debbie was the fourth of four children joining two brothers and a sister. She discovered, early in life, her passion for all creatures great and small. This passion led Debbie to adopt many four legged creatures and it directed her in her father’s footsteps to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Debbie graduated from Summerfield-Axtell High School in 1983 and graduated from Kansas State University with a DVM degree in 1990. Debbie subsequently obtained a Masters in Public Health from the University of Iowa. Debbie spent most of her career employed by the United States Department of Agriculture and had the opportunity to live in 7 states with extended stays in three foreign countries. In addition to caring for her pets, Debbie enjoyed reading, yard work, and gardening. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.
Debbie was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Cortland Nebraska.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Gary Cumro. She is survived by her brother Dennis Cumro and her sister, Janelle (Michael) Wolt; nieces Leana (Jordan) Pullen and Carolyn (Adam) Gehringer; and great-nieces, Margaret and Catherine Gehringer; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Cumro.
Mass of Christian Burial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Summerfield, Kansas with Father James Shaughnessy officiating. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m.
No visitation will be held. Interment at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Summerfield, Kansas. Memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church, Summerfield, Kansas. Online condolences may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com.
