Daniel Schultz Obituary

Daniel Lynn Schultz died on Monday, January 15, 2024, at his home near Tecumseh, Nebraska. His dog, Buddy, was by his side. He was born November 20, 1958 to Melvin and Eileen (Brockmeier) Schultz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s UCC (Maple Grove) and was a member of Maple Grove at the time of his passing.

Dan grew up on the family farm, which he later owned, helping with crops, putting up hay, milking cows (only when he couldn’t get out of it), and doing other chores found on a farm. Dan graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1977. In 1985, Dan moved to Hugoton, Kansas where he worked for Spikes Commodities for a year. He then moved back to Nebraska, at his dad’s request, to help on the farm. He also worked with Roger Borrenpohl doing carpentry work. In May 1988, he started working for the Johnson County Roads Department operating all their heavy equipment and building bridges. He was with them for 32 years until he retired in October 2020.

Dan had a passion for reading, history, candy, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers and John Deere tractors. He was a life-long Husker football fan. He was a quiet man but would always add his opinion, especially if it involved farming or politics. Dan loved his nieces and nephews and had special nicknames for some of them. He also lovingly teased them whenever he saw them. One of his nieces said the following about her Uncle Dan which describes him perfectly:

“My world is a little emptier as heaven gained another angel. My dear Uncle Dan went to heaven to be with my grandparents and his brother, Dave. He was one of the smartest, most hardworking, no nonsense guys I’ve ever known and his presence will be greatly missed by our family.”

Dan is survived by his three sisters – Marilyn (Larry) Burnett and Pat (Terry) Criger, both of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jackie (Doug) Sparks of Newark Valley, New York. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Dale, and older brother David.

Dan was a kind-hearted and caring person who we will always remember and cherish. He was loved by everyone whose life he touched. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the people who provided help during this difficult time. This includes Lynn Lyons, Deputy Sheriff; Matt Schaardt, Johnson County Roads Superintendent; the Johnson County Roads Department crew; and Chris and Brie Blessing.

Dan’s wishes were to be cremated with his ashes scattered at his farm. A special gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Wherry Mortuary, 202 N. 3rd St., Tecumseh, NE 68450.  Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
