Connie Kay (Pieper) Owens Baum, 83, of Grand Island, formerly of Hastings and Tecumseh, died Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Riverside Lodge in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Connie was born in Grand Island on November 8, 1939, to Herman and Harriet Pieper. Connie graduated from Harvard high school. After her marriage to Roy Owens Jr. the couple lived in Aurora before returning to Harvard. After the marriage dissolved Connie and her children moved to Hastings. Connie and Norman Baum were married in Grand Island on May 8, 1995.
Connie had a diverse career history, including housework, sales, and owning and operating her own massage practice for 36 years. She was passionate about healing arts, dance, and volunteering. Connie was involved in various organizations and clubs, including Toastmasters International and Citizens Advocacy. She cherished her family and enjoyed cooking, blogging, and welcoming guests into her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman, her parents Herman and Harriet, and 3 infant children: Martin Charles, Allison Joy, and Jeffrey Patrick.
Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved children: Angela (Kirby) Sidlo of Astoria, OR, Jay Owens, Amy (Mike) Schutte of Juniata, Michael Birdsong of Grand Island, three stepsons, Chris (Stephanie) Baum of Lincoln, David Baum (Tanya Cunnings) and Andrew Baum both from Grand Island, grandchildren Corey (Sharlyne) Sidlo, Toby Sidlo, Justin (Tamara) Daugherty, Chad (Britney) Daugherty, Micah (Kristen) Schutte, Natasia (Scott) Peterson, Nikki (Jon) Wood, Carley Howard, Jacob and Avery Baum as well as her great grandchildren: Milo, Hilo, Taelyr, Brookelynn, Delainey, Brayden, Riley, Elijah, Sophie, Max, John, Nathan, and Noa.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 25, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church of Juniata, NE with Reverend Darin Olson officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the St. Paul's U.C.C. (Maple Grove) Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Angie Vertz officiating. A time of fellowship and reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
