She was united in marriage to Eugene Schafer on June 20, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  To this union two children were born, Charles and Sharilee. In 1958, the couple moved to a farm near Fort Collins, Colorado.  The returned to Nebraska and moved to a farm near Elk Creek in 1963 where they raised their family.  In 1984, Eugene and Charlene left Nebraska and lived in Las Vegas, NV for a year, Morton, TX for two years and then settled in California in 1987. Eugene passed in California on October 23, 2011.  Charlene and Eugene were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tecumseh and later transferred to Faith Lutheran Church in Joshua Tree, CA.

Charlene was a farmwife and homemaker, 4-H leader, and member of the Elk Creek area extension club.  She loved children and babysat for families in both Nebraska and California.  Charlene enjoyed sewing and always had a large garden and did a lot of canning while on the farm.  She was the book keeper for Eugene and Charles’ swimming pool business in California.  Charlene dearly loved her grandchildren-even though there were many miles between them.   She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
