Carl "Butch" Schuetz Obituary

Carl Allen “Butch” Schuetz, 69, of rural Humboldt, Nebraska was born November 16, 1949 in Humboldt, Nebraska to Carl Albert and Maddie Mae (Storant) Schuetz.   He attended Humboldt High School graduating with the class of 1968.  After graduating, he joined the Army Reserve National Guard on June 2, 1968 and served until his honorable discharge on June 1, 1974.  One of his favorite things was farming and he worked for several farmers in the area.  Butch later purchased the Storant family farm from his uncles.  His mother was born in the home and it has been in his mother’s family since his great-great- grandfather Christ Storant homesteaded the place around 1877.  Butch became the 5th generation to farm it.

Butch worked hard raising hogs, farming and enjoying a cold beer now and again with friends.  He looked forward to deer hunting each year.  With the majority of his farm equipment John Deere green, Butch good nature took the heat many times from the multi-generational Case IH red Elmwood family branch.  Butch had a keen memory and was able to resolve many questions posed to him over the years about classmates, neighbors and family.  He was a great information resource for our family.  Butch was united in marriage to Helen (Johnson) Tichy on March 27, 1978 in Auburn, Nebraska.  He accepted Helen’s family as his own and showed it every day of their married life.  He most recently took the role of caregiver for Helen with never a complaint until her recent death on February 17th.  Her family will be forever grateful for his love and care of their mother.

Butch passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at his farm in rural Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the age of sixty-nine years and four months.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen, Laura Marie Tichy and Serenity Kay Marie McKee, brothers-in-law Hank Sullwold, Richard Johnson and Ralph Johnson, and nephews Terry Sullwold and Steve Johnson.

Butch is survived by his children: Vicki Jo Fleischman and husband Arlo of Elmwood, NE; Robert Tichy of Humboldt, NE; Ron Tichy and wife Brenda of Humboldt, NE; Lisa McKee and special friend Matt Dunekacke of Auburn, NE; Susie McKee of Auburn, NE; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Joan Sullwold of Stella, NE; Ramona Johnson of Table Rock, NE; Darlene Johnson of Tecumseh, NE;  along with many dear Schuetz and Storant cousins and cherished friends.
