Betty McWain Obituary

Betty Marie (Morrison) McWain was born at home on August 28, 1928 to Daniel Ivan and Sophia Elizabeth (Reinhardt) Morrison. Betty was born and raised in Table Rock, Nebraska, the youngest of eleven children, graduating from Table Rock High School in 1947.

In 1949 Betty was united in marriage to Roy "Red" McWain, Jr., moving to the town of Elk Creek where they raised their four children. Betty worked several jobs in Elk Creek over the years including Ehlers Grocery, Eversole's, Beethe Brothers, Lucy's/The Village Tavern and Scotty's Store, "retiring" in her 80's. Betty was always a hard worker and enjoyed talking with and helping her customers. When her husband Red passed away on October 12, 1979, Betty continued to live in Elk Creek. She was proud of the fact that she had lived in Elk Creek for 71 years, longer than any other living resident and at age 91 was still independent.

In June of this year, when her health declined, she became a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh where she enjoyed the staff and window visits with her family. Betty passed away peacefully there on October 28, 2020 at the age of 92 years and 2 months.

She is survived by her son James (Lynn) McWain and daughters Marlene (Bob) McWain-Doty and Donna Lewis, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her ten siblings, husband Red and their son Arlen McWain.

Betty will be fondly remembered for being a sweet, feisty and independent lady who lived life on her terms and who loved her family and her KFC. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Betty's wishes were to be cremated and no services to be held.  Graveside inurnment will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Elk Creek, Nebraska at a later date.
