Arlene Bohling Obituary

Arlene Lorraine Bohling was born to Vyrle and Lillian (Lohman) Strayer on July 22, 1946 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She grew up in the Palmyra area.  Arlene was baptized in 1958 in the Baptist Church in Palmyra and was confirmed July, 1962 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, Nebraska.  Arlene attended Palmyra Schools and obtained her GED March 6, 1981.

She was united in marriage to Norman Bohling on July 28, 1962 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, Nebraska. After their marriage, Norman and Arlene lived in Lincoln for two years, moved to a farm near St. Mary from 1963-1965, moved to a farm near Cook from 1966-1970 and then purchased the farm near Elk Creek in 1971 where they resided until her death. 

Arlene was a housewife and also worked at the Nemaha County Hospital from 1984 to 2012.  Her hobbies included reading, gardening and playing cards and marbles.  She and Norman were long time members of St. James (Long Branch) Church. She dearly enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and attending their activities. 

She passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 6 days.

Arlene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norman Bohling, children, Roxanne McDonald and husband Mike, Lisa Bartels and husband Kirk, Shari Boudle, Darcy Schultz and husband Doug, and Michael Bohling and wife Susan,  18 grandchildren, Julia Thiemann, Nicole Rathe (Tyler), Jace McDonald (Courtney), Brooke Wilson (Renner), Tony Bartels (Liz), Shay Boudle, Jaden Boudle (Nicole), Dacey Boudle, Derek Schultz (Megan),Dustin Schultz (Joanna), Dylan Schultz (Jamie), Delaney Schultz, Bailey Bohling, Terrance Bohling, Jaylyn Bohling, Hunter Bohling, Darius Bohling and Samantha Adams, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild on the way, sisters,  Luella Strodtman and Pauline Fivecoats, brother, LaRue Strayer and wife Jackie, sisters-in-law, Vera Mae Lyman, Susan H. Bohling and Joyce DeJonge, brother-in-law, Lonnie Bohling and wife Carol, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, brothers Vyrle Strayer, Jr, Maynard McDonald and Roy McDonald, brothers-in-law Jerry Strodtman, Delbert Fivecoats, Glenn Lyman, and Alan DeJonge, sisters-in-law, Irma Dieckhoff and husband William and Inez Nealy and husband William and great-grandson, Briggs Dane Boudle.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the St. James (Long Branch) Lutheran Church in rural Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Eric Spruth-Janssen officiating.  The link to the livestream is now available at the bottom of Arlene's webpage. 

 Interment will immediately follow services at the St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.   

Memorials contributions may be given to the St. James (Long Branch) Cemetery Fund or to donor’s choice.
