Alvin Eugene "Gene" Gardner

Alvin Eugene "Gene" Gardner, 78, of Cook, passed away April 23, 2024 at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was born to Charles and Mildred (Van Winkle) Gardner, Sr. on June 27, 1945 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Gene graduated from Lewiston High School in 1964.  Gene and Sheryl Thomas were married on July 15, 1997 in Eureka Springs, AR.  Gene worked in maintenance for the Campbell Soup Company for 31 years until its closing in 1998.  He then worked for the Vise-Grip Plant in DeWitt, Nebraska for ten years until he retired.  He also worked for the Tecumseh Police Department and part-time for Topps in Tecumseh.

In his spare time Gene liked to go hunting, camping and fishing.  He enjoyed tinkering with things and working with his hands.  Gene loved watching Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, playing Solitaire and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Sheryl and daughter Daisy Gardner of Cook, daughter, Rachele Eller and husband Jon of Shelby, son, Kevin Gardner of Beatrice, step-daughters, Jamie Molthan and husband Shane of Waterville, KS and Jessica Root of Tecumseh, brother-in-law David Thomas of Cook, sisters-in-law Kris Gerking and husband Les of Cook and Karen Thomas of Cook, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Joan Yates and Charlene Bryant and brother Butch Gardner.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Jim Helgren officiating. The family requests casual dress.

Register book signing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting from 5-6 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family's choice.

Inurnment will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Sheridan West Cemetery, rural Auburn, Nebraska.
