Alice Isabell (Preston) Findlay

Alice Isabell (Preston) Findlay, 95, of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at the Pawnee County Hospital  with her family by her side.  She was born on March 9, 1931 to Charles and Inez (Cole) Preston in Summerfield, Kansas. Alice’s mom died when she was 3 years old and at the age of 11 years old her father died.  She lived with her mother's sisters and brothers, the Cole family near Burchard, Nebraska.

Alice graduated from Lewiston High School and attended Peru State College where she acquired her Normal Training Certificate in 1948.  She taught 5 years in Pawnee County country school. 

On June 17, 1951 Alice married Harlan Findlay at the Presbyterian Church in Burchard, Nebraska, which was the last wedding held in that church.  To this union four children were born, Mary Alice, Edward Lynn, and twin daughters, Carolyn Kay and Sharolyn Renee.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska and 60 year member of the Brown-Hayes American Legion Auxiliary of Table Rock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Inez Preston,  husband Harlan, the Cole family, two brothers, Ronald and Wilbur Preston, and her step-mother Ines Ritchie.

Alice is survived by her children, Mary Klute (Daryl) of Lincoln, Ed of Table Rock, Carolyn Findlay (Robin Savage) and Sharolyn Gitchel (Rick), grandchildren, Matthew Christen & Bobbi of Pawnee City, Travis & Kelly Findlay of Pawnee City, Rosemary Christen & Richard of Norton, KS, Clinton Fass of Adams,  Jennifer Johnson of Lincoln,  Eric & Amanda Fass of Syracuse,  Mikayla Findlay of Lincoln,  Cody & Jordyn Bredemeier of Norton, KS, Craig Findlay of Omaha, 12 great-grandchildren,  sister, Esther Tegtmeier of Burchard, NE, half sisters, Donna Wineman of Lincoln, NE and Karen Preston of Duluth, MN, numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Interment was in the Table Rock Cemetery, Table Rock, Nebraska with a special commendation by the Brown-Hayes American Legion Auxiliary of Table Rock.  Memorials in lieu of flowers to the Table Rock United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com.  Services entrusted to Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
