Sidney Oliver McHenry was born May 1, 1945 to Rex and Betty (White) McHenry at Red Oak, Iowa. He attended Coburg Consolidated School in Coburg, Iowa through the 10th grade and graduated from Essex High School in Essex, Iowa in 1962.
Sid served in the United States Army from his entry October 27, 1970 to his honorable discharge on September 4, 1972 stationed in Germany during the end of the Vietnam Era. He had a life long passion for working on vehicles and tractors and spent 26 years working for Bob Kuhl until his retirement. He maintained friendships with Bob and his high school classmates over the years.
Sid loved playing cards with his cronies at the Steinauer Tavern. He also loved his yearly trips to Las Vegas. Sid enjoyed watching western movies, especially John Wayne and reading western novels.
He passed away December 4, 2018 at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh at the age of 73 years.
Sid is survived by his daughter, Trudy Vierra and husband Manuel of Oakdale, CA, son, Tracy McHenry of Omaha, sisters, Irene Light of Ontario, OH, Janice Washok and husband John of Jacksonville, AR and Kristi McHenry of Beatrice, brothers, Steve McHenry of Gladbrook, IA, Jim McHenry and wife Velma of Paragould, AR, Dean McHenry and wife Donna of Burchard, sister-in-law, Marie McHenry of Steinauer, grandchildren, Robyn, Alan, Nico, Carmen, KeJuan, Jayden, Keyona and Manny McHenry and Thomas Vierra, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Ken Tubbesing officiating.
Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may go to the Burchard Cemetery Association.
Interment will be in the Burchard Cemetery, Burchard, Nebraska with military rites by the Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.
