Phyllis Johnson Obituary

Phyllis Louise (Edgerton) Johnson, 84 years, 3 months and 27 days, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Pawnee City, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019. She was the sixth child born to Lloyd and Myrtle (Ellsworth) Edgerton on October 19, 1934 in Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Phyllis and her siblings attended country school west of Pawnee City until 1942 when their father passed away and they moved to town.

The family did not have a lot of money, but there was a lot of love in the house.  They entertained themselves by riding the pony (while still on the farm) and playing a lot of outside games.

Phyllis broke her arm when she was young and could not play in the family ball game.  However, she was watching the game and her brother threw the bat and broke her nose.

After graduation from Pawnee City High School in 1952, she moved to Omaha to get a job.  She lived in an apartment with her sister Carolyn at first and then with Yvonne, Janice and Earleen.

Before Yvonne got her car, several of the sisters would take the bus to the Humboldt Corner and their mom would ask a neighbor to pick them up on Friday evening and take them back to the Corner on Sunday so they could spend their weekend at home.

Phyllis and Yvonne had many great memories since they were dating (and later married) good friends from Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Phyllis and Marvin and Yvonne and Dale were married on December 26, 1957. One wedding was in Pawnee City and the other one in Tecumseh.

Phyllis and Marv moved to Grand Island for his first teaching job.  Mark was born in 1958 and Cindy in 1960. They raised their family at 89th Street in Ralston.

Phyllis enjoyed bowling and especially going to the State convention with her team. She also loved to go dancing.

When Phyllis lived in Pawnee City, she loved meeting her friends at the Winery and also being a member of the PEO Chapter AV.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin and siblings, Virginia, Guyles, Don and Carolyn.

She is survived by her children, Lucinda “Cindy” (Tim) Vashon of LaVista, NE, Mark Johnson of Omaha, NE, grandchildren, Matthew (Carrie) Vashon, Monica (Ryan) Banks, Amanda (Yano) Nastasi, great grandchildren, Zachary Banks, Layla Banks, Shaylee Banks, Marley Vashon, Maitland Vashon, Maggie Vashon, Alayna Logan, sisters, Marilyn, Yvonne, Earleen, Janice and Joyce, several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, Shirlee Spence of Tecumseh and Betty Edgerton and many friends.
