Nina May (Andresen) Mathis

   Nina May (Andresen) Mathis was born to Hans and  Vava Andresen on August 21, 1937 on a farm near West Point, Nebraska.  The family later moved into West Point where she attended elementary school through the 7th grade.  In 1950, family moved to Wahoo and Nina completed her high school education graduating from Wahoo High School in 1955.   She later took business classes at Peru State College.

  She was united in marriage to Richard Dean Mathis on September 18, 1955in Wahoo, Nebraska.  To this union, one son, Richard Lee Mathis was born.

  Nina was a homemaker and secretary for the Lincoln Chief's Baseball Club in Lincoln from 1955-1956.  In 1958, Nina worked as a candy packer for Russell Stover Candies in Lincoln.  From 1964-1967 Nina worked alongside Dean at Dean's Dixie Creme Donut Shop in Tecumseh.  From 1973-1978 she was cashier and VP for the Bank of Peru in Peru, and from 1978-1986 she worked as a secretary for Peru State College in Peru. 

Nina and Dean were longtime members of the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and served as an Awana Helper for many years.  She was a member of the Baptist Women's Fellowship Ministries.  In her spare time, Nina enjoyed camping, fishing and reading.  

Nina passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 80 years.

She is survived by her husband Richard Dean Mathis of Tecumseh and son, Richard "Rick" Mathis of CA, sisters-in-law, Jean Morris and husband Charles Morris of Sun City West, AZ and Jan Faris of Lincoln, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

 Nina was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Bob Faris.  

 Her body was donated to the Nebraska Anatomical Board.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.
