Nicholas J. Lempka, 84, of Tecumseh, passed away on August 18, 2018. He was born to Ralph and Victoria (Pientka) Lempka on September 11, 1933 near St. Mary, Nebraska. He grew up on the farm in the St. Mary area. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School and Sterling High School. Nick served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from his induction on Nov. 13, 1953 to his honorable discharge on Oct. 7, 1955. He earned the rank of Corporal at the time of his discharge.
Nick was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Murphy on May 18, 1957 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska. To this union five children were born.
Nick was a life-long farmer and also raised cattle and hogs. After his retirement from farming, Nick enjoyed running his skid loader, amateur photography, playing computer Solitaire, watching Nebraska football and spending winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Tecumseh, children, Sheila Lempka and husband Ron Roberts, Jackie Nisley and husband Brent, Gary Lempka and wife Vira, Alan Lempka, and Ann Lempka and husband Bob, grandchildren, Christopher Roberts and wife Ali, Kaitlyn Roberts and fiance' Tim Murphy, Nick Lempka and wife Shawna, Dylan Lempka and wife Jenna, Elly Lempka, Corey Lempka, Brandon Lempka, Justin Lempka, Andrew Lempka and wife Liz, Kayla Bruss and husband Preston, step-grandson, Frank Baques, great-grandson, Maddox Bruss, sisters, Mary Goracke of Lexington and Betty Putnam of Lincoln, numerous nieces and nephews and sisters and brothers in law, Margaret and Jerry Parrish and John and Diane Murphy of Tecumseh.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gene Lempka and wife Margaret and Emil Lempka and wife Rita, sisters, Monica Eilers-Wulf and husbands Marvin Eilers and Donald Wulf, Bonnie Jensen and husband Harry, Emily Schram and husband Harry, Kathleen Goracke and husband Roy "Bud" Goracke, and brothers-in-law, Harold Putnam and Norman Goracke.
Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Craig Clinch officiating.
Visitation will be held at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may go to the Tecumseh Avenue of Flags or Johnson County Veteran’s Memorial.
Inurnment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska with military rites by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team and VFW Post #8221 of Tecumseh.
