Martin Neukirch Obituary

Martin John Neukirch was born on the family farm north of St. Mary, Nebraska on April 28, 1931 to Paul and Anna (Kerner) Neukrich.  He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School through the eighth grade and worked on the family farm along with his brothers.

He entered the Air Force on Nov 28, 1951 and served his country until his discharge on Nov. 4, 1955 during the Korean War.  He was an airplane mechanic and spent his time in the service in England, France, Luxemburg, Germany, Sweden, North Africa and Tripoli.

Martin married Henrietta A. Goracke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Mary, Nebraska in 1958 and to this union three children were born, Alan, Susan and James.  Martin and his family moved to the Omaha area where he worked for Frigidaire and he later owned his own business, Marty’s Appliance Repair.  He and Henrietta eventually divorced in 1977.  Martin retired from his business and continued to reside in the Omaha area.  Martin was a member of St. Gerald Catholic Church in Ralston for a most of his adult life.

He loved being on the farm, socializing, collecting coins and playing cards, especially poker.  Martin was an exceptional cook. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.  He loved to speak to the grandkids in Polish and when they would ask what he said, he would just speak more Polish.  His grandkids brought the biggest smile to his face each and every time he saw them and he thought they could do no wrong. Martin also so enjoyed all those who came to visit him after moving into the Assisted Living Complex in Papillion in 2017. He passed away on August 4, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

Martin is survived by his children, Alan Neukirch and life partner Terre Ross, Susan (Mick) Mostek and James (Debra) Neukirch, grandchildren, Kelli, Alex, Vince, Andrea, Jordan, Samantha, and Jason, great-grandchildren, Koraline, Everett, Mila, Paxton, Lennon and Auden, sister, Marie (Tom) Morrissey, brother In-law Jim Roubal and former daughter-In-law Tonia (Kevin) Gednalske.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Anna, brothers, Charles “Clemence”, Alfred “Al”, Elmer, Archie and Leo Neukirch and sister, Margaret Roubal.
