Martha Jane (Miller) Nims

Martha Jane (Miller) Nims, 96 of Humboldt, Nebraska was born to Walter and Ella (Gordon) Miller on February 11, 1922 in Summit, Mississippi.  She graduated from Summit High School and then received her Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Miss University.  She continued her education attaining her master’s degree from Louisiana State University, (LSU). 

   Martha began her work career at Standard Oil of Louisiana working in the chemical products lab in Baton Rouge.  She moved to Nebraska and started her Vocational Home Economics Teaching career in 1946 in Humboldt where Martha also taught chemistry and general sciences.  She later taught at Falls City from 1958 to her retirement in 1984 teaching Home Economics for 38 years.  She was a member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church where she was involved with the United Methodist Women, member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Order of Eastern Star, P.E.O., and American Legion Auxiliary.  When her health declined Martha became a resident of Colonial Acres Nursing Home where she passed away April 10, 2018 at the age of 96 years.

  Martha is survived by her daughter Sarah Nims of Humboldt, nieces: Jacque Nims-Westling and husband James of Phoenix, AZ; Virginia Mueller Traylor of Baton Rouge, LA; Lisa Mueller-Alfonso of Apex, NC; a nephew Walter “Trey” Miller II of Longview, TX; and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, sister, Carolyn Mueller and husband Jack and brother, Walter Miller Jr. and wife Shirley.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.

Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Humboldt United Methodist Church or family’s choice with a later designation.
