Ruth Marlene Yelkin was born on December 27, 1935 in Humboldt, Nebraska to E. B. (Bud) and Ruth (Wilson) Roe. She died on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 3 months, and 9 days.
On August 19, 1956, Marlene married Richard Yelkin at Auburn, Nebraska. To this union, three children were born – Judy, Steve, and Cathy. Marlene enjoyed spending time with all her family. She also enjoyed a variety of hobbies, such as bowling, reading, gardening, canning, and baking especially family favorites of Cinnamon Rolls and Cheese Cake. Marlene loved cheering on her favorite teams of the Packers and Cowboys. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She helped serve her town as an Emergency Medical Technician. Marlene was loved by all who knew her.
Surviving Marlene include her children Judy and husband Damon Roach of Louisville, NE – Steve Yelkin of Grand Island, NE – Cathy and husband Mike Glinsmann, of LaVista, NE – brother Gerold “Jiggs” (Janet) Roe, grandchildren - Whitney (Chad) Yelkin, Tanner Yelkin, Logan (Robin) Yelkin, Kaylee (Mike) Roach, Hanna and husband Tom Swanson, Gabe Roach, Adam Roach, Elliot Roach, Shelby and husband Kyle Hrabik, and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers – Donald and Wayne.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Wherry Mortuary. Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before services at the Wherry Mortuary, Humboldt.
Memorials are suggested to family’s choice for later designation.
Interment will be in the Sheridan Cemetery, Auburn, Nebraska. Lunch will be served following the graveside services at the Auburn American Legion Post, 909 I Street, Auburn, Nebraska
