Marilyn McCage Obituary

Marilyn K. (Wenzbauer) McCage, 78, of Lincoln passed to eternal life on November 12, 2019, at 1:42 PM. She was born on October 12, 1941, in Pawnee City to Lawrence J and Elsie (Kalina) Wenzbauer. Marilyn was raised and lived in Table Rock, NE, where she graduated from Table Rock Public school in 1959, at age 18.  Marilyn began her Christian path at the Table Rock United Methodist Church on December 18, 1942. She was baptized into the faith on March 25, 1956, by Reverend Harry Hart. Marilyn loved music her entire life. As a youth, she sang in the United Methodist Church junior choir, and it is one of her fondest childhood memories.  At age 19, she started playing the organ for the United Methodist Church and continued to do so for 25 years until age 44. During that time, Marilyn played piano for many funerals in the area and played the bells at various churches.

In 1961, at age 19, Marilyn gave birth to her son, Bradley Dean.  At age 21, she gave birth to her daughter, Jody Lynn.  Much of Marilyn’s younger years were spent raising a family, tending to a large garden, raising chickens, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, attending basketball games, volleyball games, football games and track meets.  She was an excellent cook known for her wonderful meals and generous hospitality.  Marilyn loved to play cards and games with her family and was known to throw a game or two so others could win.

Marilyn furthered her education by obtaining her LPN license in 1982. She cared for many patients at the Pawnee County Hospital and Humboldt nursing home for many years.  She continued her education and became an RN, graduating from Bryan College in 1988.  After graduation, Marilyn remained in Lincoln to work at Lincoln General Hospital. Later, she began employment with the Dialysis Center of Lincoln. She was loved dearly by all of her patients and was known for her gentle and loving nursing abilities.

Once Marilyn retired, she moved to Beatrice. While there, she loved having her grandchildren visit often. Her grandchildren, Andrew, Rachel, and Olivia, were the light of her life, and she loved them dearly. Marilyn took her grandchildren to the movies, to the pool, frequent runs to McDonald's and Dairy Queen, taught them to bake, took them for special 1x1 shopping trips and stayed a constant presence in their lives. In 2014, she returned to Lincoln and made wonderful friendships when she began singing in the Lincoln Senior Chorus and attending Vine Congregational United Church of Christ.  Her greatest joy and reward in life was her family, and she dearly loved having two children who were filled with orneriness and laughter.  She loved their amazing sense of humor, which made for some entertaining and lively days that she enjoyed. She felt her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson were cherished blessings from God. They brought her endless sunshine, happiness, true acceptance, and unconditional love.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Jody Jorgensen, grandchildren Andrew Nesja, Rachel Nesja, and Olivia Nesja, great-grandson Spencer Weils, a sister Karen (Larry) Gilbert, an aunt Erma (Alfred) Penkava and many nieces, nephew, great-nephew, cousins and a host of friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and son Bradley Tomek.
