Marie L (Schmale) Holman

   Marie Louise (Schmale) Holman was born to Fritz and Emma (Reier) Schmale on August 26, 1922 at Cortland, Nebraska.  She grew up in the Cortland area and was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Pickrell, Nebraska.  She attended Cortland Public Schools and Cortland High School. 

   She was united in marriage to Irvin Holman in Hiawatha, Kansas on April 10, 1944.  To this union three children were born, Carol, Laura and Gary.

  Irvin and Marie lived in Beatrice when they were first married.  Marie worked as a waitress and then went to Beauty School and worked as a hairdresser in Beatrice.  They moved to Liberty, Nebraska where they started their family.  In 1949, they moved to a farm northwest of Tecumseh where Irvin started farming and Marie worked for the Campbell Soup Company in Tecumseh and also in the grocery store in Burr.  Irvin and Marie resided in Burr for many years.  Irvin passed away in 1997.  After Irvin passed, Marie moved to Sterling for about a year and then to an assisted living in Lincoln. She was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church, Burr, where Marie remained a member until her death.  She enjoyed crocheting, reading the Bible and newspapers and doing crossword puzzles.  Marie especially enjoyed visits from family and friends.

   Marie passed away at Southlake Village Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, Friday, April 20, 2018, at the age of 95 years.

  She is survived by her daughter, Carol Moss of Omaha and son Gary Holman of Beatrice, grandchildren, Colleen Carpenter and husband Greg, Bill Moss and wife Jennifer and John Moss and wife Mycala, great-grandchildren, Raeanna Moss, Alex Carpenter, Zach Carpenter, Tomi Marie Moss and Hudson Moss, brother, Harry Schmale and wife Lois of Beatrice and sister-in-law, Rebecca Schmale of Cortland and many nieces and nephews.

   Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Irvin, daughter, Laura Rose Price and brother Harvey Schmale.                    

   Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Burr, Nebraska with Rev. Jim Helgren officiating.

   Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Monday, April 23, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

   Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

   Interment will be in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Burr, Nebraska.
