Margaret Mullin Obituary

Margaret Irene Mullin, 87, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 17, 2019.  Margaret was born on May 5, 1932 at her grandparent’s hotel (William and Mary Sebring) in DuBois, Nebraska.  Her parents, Henry and Maude Triska, farmed near DuBois where they resided on various farms.  Margaret attended East Start Country School, Union School, and in 1950 she graduated from DuBois High School.  After graduation, she worked at the old Pawnee Hospital as a nurses aid and lived in the hospital annex.

On New Year’s Day in 1954, she was married to Jerome “Jerry” Mullin in a double ring ceremony with her sister Beverly and Byford Thomas at the DuBois Church.

They resided on a farm south of Pawnee City where their two daughters, Elaine and Carol were born.  Margaret continued to work at the Pawnee Hospital, until poor farming conditions caused Jerry to take a job assessing various counties.  At that time they were living in a 38 ft. trailer home pulled by a 1954 Buick.  Jerry and Margaret then moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where their son Roy was born.  Jerry’s job also took them to Leavenworth, Kansas and Missoula, Montana for several years.  In 1961, Jerry’s wish to go back to farming, brought them back to Nebraska to the farm where Margaret was raised.  Jerry spent time remodeling a nearby farm house where they lived until her passing.

Margaret loved her family, her church, gardening and cooking.  She babysat all the neighbor kids, which included the Kosek and the Zelenka children and also her granddaughter Michelle, who spent many summers on the farm with them.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Maude Triska, her husband Jerry, February 24, 2001, brother LaVern Triska, sister, Beverly Geschwender and brother-in-law Byford Thomas.

She survived by her daughters, Elaine Mullin and Carol Mullins and husband Tom, son Roy Mullin, granddaughter Michelle (Bryan) Rapp, great grandsons, Kevin, Zakery and Tyler Rapp, sister-in-law Sharon Triska, brother-in-law Mark Geschwender.  She also leaves nieces and nephews, Carmen, Denise, Kevin, Brenda, Patty, Jeff, Debbie, Dennis and Julia and special neighbor kids, Christina, Charlotte and John James.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in DuBois, Nebraska with Pastor Kim officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12-8 p.m. with family greeting from 5-7 p.m. at the Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
