Leroy Lester Holthus was born July 12, 1940 rural Elk Creek, Nebraska to John and Frieda (Lampe) Holthus. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran (Stone) Church, rural Auburn. Leroy was confirmed at Martin Luther Church, rural Johnson, Nebraska. He attended rural country school through the eighth grade, Tecumseh High School and then graduated from Elk Creek High School in 1959.
Leroy was a farmer and enjoyed farming, raising livestock and doing mechanical work. He loved building and tinkering with things in his garage and especially enjoyed going to polka dances. Leroy built a horseless carriage that he enjoyed driving in many local parades. After retiring from farming, Leroy had a tree spraying business. He loved his dogs, Patches and Peaches and enjoyed going to coffee and visiting with friends.
He passed away November 26, 2018 at the age of 78 years.
Leroy is survived by his children, Connie Richardson of Wichita, KS, Betty Kelly of Morton, IL, Lonnie Holthus and wife Kelly of Sterling and Pennie Harms of Benedict, grandchildren, Shea and Seth Morris, Kristina Kelly, Katie Long, Shanda Holthus, Simone Harms and Kelsie Holthus, great-grandchildren, Hailey, Lilah, Harper, Aiden and Maxwell, sisters, Delores Chizek and husband Joe of Cuba, KS, Eileen Rich of Lincoln and Janice Cawley and husband John of Tecumseh, sister-in-law, Angela Holthus of Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Sean, great-granddaughter, Alexa, sisters, Ellen Beethe and Nelva Beethe, brother, Alvin Holthus, brothers-in-law, Russell Rich, Owen Beethe and Glenn Beethe, niece Carolyn Beethe and nephew, Arlan Holthus.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Ken Tubbesing officiating.
Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, December 7, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.
