Kolt Byrd Obituary

Kolt Daniel Byrd passed away January 9, 2019, due to health complications. He was born on Dec. 30, 2000 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Amber Lewis and Nathan Byrd. Kolt lived in Oklahoma City for the 1st five years of his life. After preschool he and his mother moved to Pawnee City, NE.  In December of 2005 Kolt was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, something no one was prepared for. In 2009 Kolt welcomed a baby brother Kashton. He was then raised by Amber and her close friend Jason Ries. At the age of 9 Kolt received his first wheelchair, it was a  push wheelchair and all the kids in his class wanted to push him in his chair.  Kolt received his first electric wheelchair when he was 11 and it was a new training course for everyone. Kolt spent every summer from the age of 5 to 17 at MDA summer camp. That was always the highlight of his summer. Although Kolt was hesitant every summer to go to camp, he was always happy to have went and meeting new friends.

In 2016 Kolt welcomed a sister Mary. He would have never thought how great his siblings were.  Kolt enjoyed going to the pool on his summer vacation to hang out with his friends, he enjoyed the water. Kolt had plans to graduate this May with the class of 2019. Kolt loved his friends, watching movies with them, and playing video games. Kolt always had a smile on his face and would listen or talk to anyone. With in the last year Kolt was turning into quite the young man. Kolt loved art and beginning to love speech. This year he chose to take on helping in the preschool room at school which he grew to love. His favorite always being art, his passion, a class he would go to by himself and do his thing. Kolt had a huge heart and loved everyone. One day we knew his disease would completely take over, unfortunately it happened quicker than we wanted it to. Kolt passed away surrounded by people who loved him.

Kolt was preceded in death by his great grandparents Martha and Calvin Percival Pawnee City NE, great grandma Mary Gerhold Yorba Linda, CA, great uncle Randy Percival Pawnee City NE, grandpa Kyle York, Oklahoma City, OK, great grandpa Byrd & great grandma Byrd Oklahoma City, OK and special friend Travis Ries Pawnee City, NE.
