Kenneth Hunzeker Obituary

Kenneth would like to let you know that his work here is done. “I was given the gift of life, and now I have to give it back. This is hard. But I was a lucky man, who led a wonderful existence, and for this I am grateful.”

Kenneth Wayne Hunzeker, 91, of Pawnee City, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018.  Kenneth was born on July 14, 1926 at his rural home near Humboldt, Nebraska. He is the son of Jacob Henry Hunzeker and Sadie Fernanda Stalder. Kenneth grew up with his six siblings on the family farm. In the St. John’s Reformed Church, he was baptized October 31, 1926 and confirmed December 1,1940. In the Humboldt school district Kenneth graduated high school. He then joined the family farm before enlisting in the US Navy on December 1, 1951. He served in Hawaii and was honorably discharged on May 1, 1953.

Kenneth then married the love of his life, Dolly Jane Ford, on November 15, 1953. Together Kenneth and Dolly established their farm near DuBois Nebraska, raising livestock, crops, and their beloved daughters. Kenneth held board member positions at St, John’s Reformed Church and upon its closure, at Four Mile Congregational Church. He also served on Nemaha County COOP Board of Directors, and held a term as president. Kenneth and Dolly retired from the farm, moved to their farmhouse near Table Rock, then relocated to Pawnee City prior to his departure.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Relda, sisters Marjorie, Blanche, Doris and his brother Marvin.

Kenneth will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Dolly and his children, Sharan and Mary (David).  Kenneth will also be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren, Anita (Richard), Elizabeth (Stephen), Seth, Heather (Alex), Wyatt (Alison); seven great-grandchildren, Elly, Krista, Sophie, Deborah, Caroline, Aubrey, and Grant. Surviving siblings include Lloyd (Mary Ann) Hunzeker and Mildred Bloss.
