I'm very sorry to hear about Joe. While in high school we made many "fast" trips in my old Ford to Seneca Kansas dances. I spent 20 years in the USAF and managed to see him one time shortly after his marriage. I certainly wish there would have been more times. My sympathy to everyone.

I am the oldest son of Frank L Vrtiska, Joe's dads (Albert) youngest brother. I am sorry to hear of Joes passing but know that the significant presence of so many Vrtiskas provides support and peace for the family. I was a small child when we lived in Omaha but remember my Dad telling me about Albert as we would visit my grandpa Joe in Pawnee City. I was born in 1944 and traveled the same military path as Joe having been in the Air Force from 1967 to 1970. Our family moved to Oregon in the early 50's and me and my wife live here now. We visited Pawnee City several years ago and it was so comforting to be around so many Vrtiskas. Again, my condolences to the family and best wishes for the future.

A dear friend for close to 50 years. I am so sorry for your loss Linda. I last spoke with Joe at Christmas time when we ran across each other at Best Buy. As always, he made me feel like I was one of his closest friends. He was like that. He always had a genuine interest in everyone. These extreme cold days always remind me of the time when you were living in a trailer in Crete shortly after he took his teaching job there. Bill Fuqua and I came down to visit. It was very cold out and Joe was under the trailer with a propane torch warming up the "water lines". I told him what he was doing wasn't a great idea....they were the "gas lines". We laughed about that for years.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Joe's passing. Having gone through grade school and high school in the same class, I have many good memories of Joe and his pleasant personality and sense of humor. My sincere condolences to family and friends.

Joe was my manager from 2007 till he retired, I transfered from city campus to east campus because I was told he would always have your back in any situation. I deeply respected this man because he was a straight shooter. He reminded me of my father. Joe never let me down, and for that I will always have him in my memories. My deepest sympathys to all the family.
