John Cawley Obituary

John D. Cawley, 81, of rural Tecumseh, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his home.  He was born to Charles R. and Emma (Hoskins) Cawley on June 2, 1938 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  John graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1956, served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1964 and was a past member of the local Masonic Lodge.  

On October 28, 1962, John was united in marriage to Janice Holthus at the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Together they made their home on a farm near Tecumseh and raised their five children.  

John had a deep love for animals, agriculture and heavy equipment.  He farmed, raised a wide variety of animals, drove semis across the Midwest and pushed dirt around with his many bulldozers.  John was usually found working outside tending crops, fixing fence, feeding cows or even cutting wood.

John is survived his wife of 57 years, Janice; children, Stephen C. Cawley and wife Kim of Weeping Water, Laurie Cawley and Roger Rejcha of Dorchester, Jonathan D. Cawley of Tecumseh, Holly Plager and husband Darold of Tecumseh and Stephanie Kosiba and husband Tony of Syracuse, grandchildren, Emmilie and Carlie Kosiba, Steven and Kaitlynn Plager, Charles D. Cawley and Emily and Kate Zakaras, sister, Virginia Tyson of McMinnville, TN, brother, Charles R. Cawley and wife Joyce and Richard H. Cawley of Altamont, TN, sisters-in-law, Angela Holthus of Johnson and Eileen Rich of Lincoln and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dee and Joe Chizek of Cuba, KS and nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Jerry Montgomery and Chuck Tyson, sisters and brothers in law, Nelva and Owen Beethe, Ellen and Glenn Beethe, Alvin Holthus, Russ Rich and LeRoy Holthus.

   Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Rev. Rob Clark officiating. The family requests casual dress.

   A register book will be available Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

   Memorials may go to the family's choice.

   Interment was in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
