J. Leonard Weakland

  James “Leonard” Weakland, 88, of Tecumseh, passed away at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, Nebraska on February 17, 2018.

 He was born to Charles and Daisy (Fonte) Weakland on January 29, 1930 at Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He attended rural school district 68 and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1947.  Leonard served in the Navy on the USS John R. Craig from 1951 to 1954 stationed in San Diego, California during the Korean War.  He met and married Deanna Farrar on November 6, 1954 in San Diego and moved back to Nebraska to farm with his family.  To this union six children were born. 

 Leonard was an active member of Farm Bureau, VFW, Rural Water District and Knights of Columbus.  He farmed and had a small dairy operation.  He retired from Campbell Soup Company.  Leonard was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh.  He enjoyed playing cards and going to dances where he met many friends. 

 Leonard is survived by his children, Roger Weakland of Tecumseh, Leann Pohlman and husband Dean of Eagle, Jackie Hippen and husband John of Lewiston, Mike Weakland of Tecumseh, and Jean Pohlman and husband Larry of Syracuse, eleven grandchildren, Michelle Ellis and husband Andy, Amy Sederberg and husband Greg, Kristi McGuire and husband Adam, Kara Deist and husband Allen, Becky Hippen, Rachel Pickering and husband Brian, Bethany Berg and husband Landon, Stacie Lada and husband Lucas, Jacob Weakland, Patrick Pohlman and wife Becky and Dusty Pohlman and wife Jen, fourteen great-grandchildren, Shane and Kaitlynn Ellis, Owen and Theo Sederberg, James and Mason McGuire, Haleigh Deist, Colette Pickering, Oliver and Donavan Berg, Beau Lada, Cameron Pohlman and Madilyn and Cora Pohlman, and 2 on the way and three nieces, Barbara and Becky Lidolph and Beverly Pomplun.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Daisy; infant daughter, Jan Louise and sister Regina Lidolph and husband Lyle.   

   Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Craig Clinch officiating.

   Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

   Memorials may go to the Johnson County Veterans Memorial.

   Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska with full military honors by the Navy Funeral Honors Team and the Tecumseh VFW Post #8221 of Tecumseh.
