Irene May (Panko) Wright

Irene May (Panko) Wright, 96 of Table Rock, Nebraska passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at her home.  She was born on June 22, 1921 to Albert and Mary (Skrabol) Panko in Crab Orchard, Nebraska.

Irene’s father passed away when Irene was 2 years old.  She was the youngest of 4 children.  Her mother worked hard to keep a roof over their heads.  As a youngster Irene was sent to town to help a lady with housework, enabling her to attend school. She graduated from Crab Orchard High School.  Irene was united in marriage to Dale Wright and she was a large part of her husband's Skelly service station, working alongside keeping books for him. 

Irene always had a big garden and would feed family from it, canning and freezing produce to eat through the winter.  She continued gardening into her 90’s. Until this day she had two freezers well stocked for any emergency that might come along, typical of a woman who lived through the Great Depression. One had a hard time leaving Irene's house without being fed before heading out the door. Irene was first and foremost a homemaker, but through the years worked for the United States Post Office and also at the Table Rock Library.  She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents, Albert and Mary Panko, and her brothers and sisters.

Irene is survived by her sons, Don (Pat) Wright of Lincoln, NE, Bob (Linda) Wright of Bettendorf, IA, John (Kathy) Wright of Columbus, NE, Jim (Pat) Wright of Pulaski, WI, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Verna Knigge, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services: 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2017 at United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska. with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.

A Register book signing will be Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska and Monday one hour before services at the United Methodist Church in Table Rock.  Inurnment will be in the Table Rock Cemetery, Table Rock, Nebraska.
