Helen Siemsen (Norris) Martin

Helen Elizabeth (Norris) Siemsen Martin, 98, passed away April 7, 2018 at her home in Annandale, VA. She was born in Table Rock NE, Nov 15, 1919. Her family were parents Edgar and Frances Land Norris, brother Charles and sister Lois.

Helen grew up in Table Rock amid her extended family of aunts and uncles, grandparents, CI & Ida Norris, and great grandmother Fannie Norris. She graduated from Table Rock HS in 1936 and attended University of Nebraska.  Helen married Martin Siemsen in Table Rock in 1941. In 1976 he passed away in Philadelphia PA.  They had lived in Indiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, and Pennsylvania. They also lived in Brazil & Spain and traveled extensively from those locations. In 1989 Helen married Dave Martin in Houston. They made their home in Hattiesburg, MS where he passed away in 2004. In 2007 she moved to Virginia to be close to family.

Helen was a member of The Trinity Episcopal Church in Hattiesburg.  She belonged to PEO International. She loved traveling abroad with Martin. Driving was a favorite pastime. She drove all over the country with grandson Gavin to see friends and family. She enjoyed showing Dave sights in the South.  She was a keen bridge player.

Two children survive Helen, her son, Martin Siemsen, Jr (Celia) their two children Karl (Michele) & Helen Dingus (Morgan), their children Karl, Parker, and Oscar, her daughter Betty Ann Wilkins (Jim) her son Gavin Chaze (Elisa) and children Amanda, Ryan, & Hannah, three step children, Mary Skees (Pat), David Martin (Sue), and Bob Martin (Susan) and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Table Rock Cemetery with Pastor Dorothy Smith of the Table Rock United Methodist Church officiating.  A reception will be held following the service in the Argus Museum. A memorial in Helen’s name has been established with the Table Rock Historical Society, P. O. Box 66, Table Rock, NE 68447.
