Glenn Beethe Obituary

   Glenn W. Beethe was born to Robert C. and Rosina (Marquardsen) Beethe on March 24, 1933 on the family farm in Pawnee County, Nebraska.  He was baptized April 26, 1933 and confirmed March 30, 1947 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Elk Creek, Nebraska. He attended the Beethe School District # 30 through the fourth grade and St. Peter’s Parochial School thru the eighth grade.  Glenn then began farming with his father on the Beethe homestead.   In addition to farming, Glenn shelled corn for others and also trucked livestock and grain for many years. 

   He was united in marriage to Ellen A. Holthus on September 15, 1953 at the St. John’s Lutheran (Stone) Church, rural Auburn, Nebraska.  To this union four children were born.  Ellen passed away September 4, 2006.

   Glenn served his country during the Korean Conflict from April of 1953 to March of 1955.  He received basic training at Ft. Leonardwood, MO.  He worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator.  He attained the rank of Corporal at the time of his honorable discharge. 

   He was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he held various offices in the church, 15 years on church council, as an elder, trustee and on the finance committee.  He also served on school board for Elk Creek High School and the Farmer’s Union Co-op Board.  Glenn was a charter member of the Tracy-Bates American Legion Post # 370 of Elk Creek.

   Farming and agriculture were his first love, but in his spare time and after retirement, Glenn enjoyed playing cards and checking out the crops in the area.  He became a resident of Ridgeview Towers in Tecumseh in 2015.  He passed away at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh on February 6, 2018 at the age of 84 years.

   Glenn is survived by his daughters, Glenna Bohling and husband Randy of Syracuse and Elaine Speckmann and husband Randy of Johnson, sons, Mike Beethe  and Harlan Beethe and wife Lisa of Elk Creek, grandchildren, Jess Bland and husband Theo, Josh Bohling, Crystal Neihoff and husband Nathan, Keri  Rasby and husband Chase, Dalton Lueders, Katie, Erica, Cody, Brent and Haley Beethe, 6 great-grandchildren, brother, Lloyd Beethe of Tecumseh, sisters, Mildred Luedders of Pawnee City and Gladys Doerr and husband Melvin of Papillion, sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores and Joe Chizek of Cuba, KS, Angela Holthus of Johnson, Eileen Rich of Lincoln, LeRoy Holthus of Tecumseh and Janice and John Cawley of Tecumseh and numerous nieces and nephews. 

   He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen, brothers, Lawrence Beethe and wife Alice and Owen Beethe and wife Nelva, sisters, Norma Kettelhake and husband Arnold and Lois Clement and husband Rudy, sisters and brothers in law, Marian Beethe, Lavern Luedders, Alvin Holthus and Russell Rich. 

  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska, with Rev. Robert Schermbeck officiating.

   Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, February 9, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

   Memorials will go to the family’s choice.

   Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska, with full military honors by the Tracy-Bates American Legion Post # 370 of Elk Creek.
