Glen Baum Obituary

Glen F. Baum, 90, of rural Tecumseh, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2019 while resting in his favorite chair on the family farm.  He was born on February 11, 1929 at the same family farm southwest of the Maple Grove Church. He attended country school through 8th grade and then graduated with the 1946 class at Tecumseh Public School.  After his high school graduation, Glen worked for his father on the farm for a year before attending the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture, earning both his bachelors and masters degrees in Agricultural Education.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War before returning home to teach agriculture education in DeWitt, Nebraska. Part of his teaching experience also included Adult VA School in Louisville and later, high school agricultural education classes at Lewiston all while continuing to farm.

It was while teaching in DeWitt he met his future wife, Mary Lou.  They were united in marriage sixty-three years ago on May 29, 1956, and to this union four children were born: Bill, Tom, Sharon and John.  Glen brought his wife and family back to the home place where he resumed his love of agriculture and stewardship of the land for the rest of his life.

Glen took an active role in many community organizations including the Maple Grove Church Board, AmVets, VFW, and the Pasture Walkers just to name a few.  In addition to his family, Glen loved his cattle, flying, baseball and the Nebraska Huskers.

Glen is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Wood) Baum; sons, Bill and Linda Baum, Tom and Teresa Baum and John and Susan Baum all of Tecumseh; daughter, Sharon (Baum) and Galen Kuska of Exeter, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Norman and Connie Baum of Tecumseh and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary (Leuenberger) Baum, grandson Tim Baum, sisters, Lorene Behrends and Luella Baum, brothers, Lester Baum and Robert Baum.

The family placed a time capsule in 1996 at the farm.  Each family member placed an item or two inside.  It will be opened in 2096.
