Dorothy Jean (Church) Burget, 91, formerly of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on July 3, 1928, in Humboldt, Nebraska to John J. and Leona E. (Rue) Church. Dorothy and her older siblings went to country school over the state line into Kansas. After the family moved to a farm near Humboldt, she attended school in Humboldt through her junior year and began work as a nurse’s aide at the Humboldt Hospital. On November 6, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage to Elton Burget. To this union a daughter, Joyce Elaine, was born. The couple lived in Humboldt where Elton worked for the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company for many years. When Elton took a job with a beef packing plant, the family moved to Lincoln. After ten years in Lincoln, they moved to Greely, Colorado after Elton was offered a promotion. Dorothy worked for several years in a care home in Greely. Elton and Dorothy later moved back to Humboldt and after Elton passed away in 1990, Dorothy moved to Superior, Nebraska to live and be closer to her sister Irene. She later moved to Sabetha, Kansas in 2014 to be closer to her sister Kay and enter the care home. Dorothy enjoyed riding horses, working in the yard with her flowers and spending time with family and friends.
Dorothy passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas having reached the earthly age of ninety-one years, two months and twelve days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elton, daughter Joyce Elaine Bainbridge, brothers Leonard (Helen) and Carl (Wanell) Church and a brother-in-law Leonard Arnold.
She is survived by her loving sisters: Helen Fankhauser of Sabetha, KS; Irene Church of Superior, NE; Kay Arnold of Sabetha, KS; Mae (Richard) Ondracek) of Hastings, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at The Humboldt Cemetery with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
