Dorothy Lucille Bryan was born to Joseph and Mary (Hupka) Sobotta on October 24, 1918 in Smartville, Nebraska. She was raised in Smartville (St. Mary) and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Parochial School.
She was married to William I. “Bill” Bryan and to this union two sons, Bill and Craig were born.
Dorothy devoted her life to raising her sons and caring for others, particularly her family. She did housework for several families, worked for Mary’s Restorium and later worked in housekeeping for the Johnson County Hospital, keeping it spotless until her retirement in 1997.
Dorothy was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
She enjoyed polka dances, baking, cooking, cleaning and caring. There was never a house too large to clean or a laundry basket too full to wash or iron. She lived for many years at the Tecumseh Manor and then moved to Ridgeview Towers and later transferred to Belle Terrace in Tecumseh. Dorothy passed away there on July 13, 2017 at the age of 98 years, 7 months and 19 days.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Bill Bryan and wife Wendy of Gardner, KS and Craig Bryan and wife Kris of Omaha, grandchildren, Alicia Newton and husband Michael, Sean Bryan and fiance’ Molly and Dwayne Clark and wife Jennette, 3 step great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Alice Sobotta of Lincoln and Ines Meister of Tecumseh and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary, husband, Bill, companion, Lawrence Kamen, sisters, Anna Lempka and husband Albert, Florence Mason and husband Ray, Lucy Lempka and husband Con, Lorene Tingler and husband Ting, brothers, Clarence Sobotta, John Sobotta and wife Leona and Tim Sobotta and wife Janis.
Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Karl Millis officiating. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m.
Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials may go to the family’s choice.
Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
