Darlene Mae (Grove) Johnson, 78, of Tecumseh, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh, Nebraska. She was born to Francis A. and Esther (Haynes) Grove Sr. in Elk Creek, Nebraska. Darlene attended Elk Creek Public Schools.
Darlene met her future husband, Richard Dean Johnson, in home ec class in Elk Creek. They were united in marriage on November 15, 1959 at the Pawnee County Courthouse in Pawnee City, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Dale, Ken and Brenda. Richard and Darlene lived near Elk Creek until moving to Tecumseh in 1970. Richard and Darlene enjoyed square dancing and gardening and raising her family. Her husband Richard passed away June 25, 2016.
Darlene worked for the Tecumseh Care Center as well as the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn in the cleaning department.
She is survived by her children, Dale Johnson and wife Connie Hammitt of Bellevue, Ken Johnson and wife DeAnn of Unadilla and Brenda Ensor and husband Albert of Auburn, many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother, Gary Grove of Tecumseh, sisters-in-law, Ramona Johnson of Table Rock, Nancy Grove of Auburn and Joan Sullwold of Stella, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, brother, Francis T. Grove, Jr., step mother, Maxine Grove and in-laws, Helen and Carl Schuetz and Hank Sullwold.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Pastor Nathan Powell officiating.
Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials may go to the family’s choice.
Interment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
