Betty Ann (Marts) Usher

Betty Ann (Marts) Usher, 89, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born to Joy and Mildred (Myers) Marts on June 22, 1929 in Stella, Nebraska.  She attended grade school through the 4th grade in Stella, 5th & 6th grade in Humboldt, and 7th & 8th grade in Wahoo.  Betty attended high school in Lincoln through the 11th grade and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1947.  After graduating, she received her teaching degree from Peru State Teachers College.  On May 21, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to John William Usher in Lincoln, Nebraska.  To this union three children, Michael, Thomas, and Virginia were born.  The couple began their marriage living in Humboldt where Betty taught at three different country schools in the area.  In 1966, she began her career as a postal clerk at the Humboldt Post Office retiring in 1990 from her position.  Betty was a 70-year member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church where she served the church in many capacities.  She was also a member of the Crescent Rebekah Lodge #100 and in 2010, Betty was awarded “Woman of the Year” by the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.

Betty passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the age of eighty-nine years, one month, and twenty-one days.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Donna Meyer, and an infant brother Charles Robert Marts.

Betty is survived by her loving husband Bill Usher of Humboldt, NE; sons: Michael Usher and wife Vicki of Highland, IL; Thomas Usher and wife Pam of Grand Island, NE; daughter Virginia Fosket and husband Jim of Grand Island, NE; 7 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; 1 step-great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Betty Blecha of Humboldt, NE; brothers-in-law: Bob Usher and wife Lea of San Antonio, TX; John Meyer of Falls City, NE; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
