   Virginia Mae (Kalous) Feurer was born to John and Mary (Brewer) Kalous on Nov. 27, 1933 near Humboldt, Nebraska.  She was the only child born to this union.  She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. James Lutheran Church, (Long Branch), by Rev. H. Bents.

  Virginia attended Round Grove rural school near her home for eight years and went on to graduate from Humboldt High School with the Class of 1951.  After graduation she attended Peru State College for one summer and taught her first year at Pine Ridge rural school before her marriage. Virginia graduated from Peru College in 1971. 

   On June 28, 1952 Virginia married Lester Feurer while he was in the Air Force  They were away from the area for several years and then returned to the Feurer family farm where they lived until April of 2008, when she had a stroke and other medical problems and Virginia and Lester moved to Ridgeview Towers in Tecumseh.  Lester passed away March 23, 2010.

   Virginia taught in rural schools for over 40 years, retiring in 1999.  She held great pride in her students accomplishments and awards they received in the spelling contests, essay writings, soil conservation posters, art drawings and achievements as they went on to high school and college. She remained close to many of the students and their families through the years after retiring.  Virginia always enjoyed visits from former students and their families.  She belonged to a number of teacher's organizations, taught Sunday School, was a member of Farm Bureau and Red Hatters and helped with judging the Voice of Democracy contest and also with 4-H judging and the parade at the Johnson County Fair. In their earlier years, she and Lester enjoyed square dancing.  Virginia loved cooking for her family and baking kolaches for her grandchildren.    

   She passed away at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Monday morning, July 25, 2016 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 28 days.

   She is survived by her sons, Robert Feurer and wife Julie of North Bend and David Feurer of rural Johnson, granddaughter, Erin Feurer of Wichita, KS and grandson, Cade Feurer and wife Courtney of North Bend, great-grandson, Bram Thomas Feurer, step-mother, Mildred Kalous of Syracuse, other relatives and many friends. 

    Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lester.  

      Register book signing will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, July 29, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    Memorials in lieu of flowers to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Johnson, Nebraska.

    Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
