Sarah Jean (Deditius) Montgomery

Born September 6, 1947-Died February 10, 2016.

Sarah Jean (Deditius) Montgomery was born on September 6, 1947 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Vermillion and Winifred (Faragher) Deditius. Sarah passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Sarah married Michael Robert Montgomery on November 8, 1980. Sarah and Michael raised four children. Sarah worked in the fields of retail sales, horse wrangler at Chadron State Park, and nursing. After receiving her nursing degree, Sarah worked in hospitals in Chadron, Grant, Fairbury, and Pawnee City. Service to others brought her joy.

Sarah enjoyed family, friends, and travel. She loved to travel around the country seeing sites and visiting Presidential Libraries. Her travels with Michael included trips to Germany, France, China, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and many parts of the United States. One of her “bucket list items” was to walk on the Great Wall in China and she was able to do that in June of 2010.

Sarah and Michael had just visited Hawaii over Thanksgiving vacation where Sarah spent part of one afternoon snorkeling and looking at sea turtles. She loved being on the beach walking in the sand, exploring, looking for seashells and sea glass.

Sarah was a very strong supporter of Nebraska volleyball attending most home games, and traveled to several out of state. In December, she was sitting courtside when Nebraska won the 2015 national title and attended the end of the year banquet in January.

Sarah had an adventurous spirit. She had done one skydive and was looking forward to doing another. She stared down a buffalo in Yellowstone, swam with manatees in Florida, took a ride on the Ripcord in Kansas City and many other adventures. In her younger years she had raced hobie cat catamarans on the West Coast.

She loved her pets, two dachshunds, Annie and Sidda, and her greyhound, Maya. She was a very skilled seamstress and could fix most things with the tools that were in her purse.

Sarah was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved being with them playing games, visiting, and having meals together, and especially taking the grandkids to the Omaha Zoo. She very much enjoyed the banter that was part of these family visits.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Deitz and Win Deditius.

She is survived by her husband, Michael, and children Julie and husband Chad Daffer, Steven Weaver and wife Julie, Maggie and husband Steve Garcia, and Danni and husband Michael Stoddard.

She leaves six granddaughters: Mara Tharp, Morgan Daffer, Taylor Daffer, Reagan Garcia, Paige Garcia, and Charlotte Stoddard.
