Ruth (Starlin) Wolken

   Ruth (Starlin) Wolken, 87, of Tecumseh, Nebraska was born to Charles and Wilma (Wright) Starlin on December 31, 1929 at the family home in rural Vesta, Nebraska.  She was raised in Vesta in a house called the “Carter Place” which was known as being haunted.  It had a cast iron stove that Ruth would fry bird eggs on.  In her early years, she attended grade school in Vesta and graduated from Tecumseh High School with the class of 1947.  Ruth worked for a Tecumseh florist, was a fry cook, and retired from Lincoln Telephone Company.  On April 23, 1983, she was united in marriage to David Wolken at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh and in her spare time enjoyed traveling, camping, spending time with her family, and playing BINGO at the fair.

   When her health began to decline, Ruth became a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, Nebraska and passed away there on Saturday, December 23, 2017, having reached the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months, and twenty-three days. 

   She is survived by her husband David Wolken of Tecumseh, NE; daughter Lynn Buss and husband Frank of Gretna, NE; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother Mel Starlin of  Lincoln, NE; David’s children:  Vickie Wenzl and husband Roger of Lincoln, NE; Dave Wolken and wife Karen of Tecumseh, NE; Jerry Wolken and wife Jeanne of Lincoln, NE; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Cherie Starlin of Omaha, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

  Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Glen and Les Starlin, a sister Anna May Starlin, and David’s daughter Lori Wolken.

  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment will be in the Vesta Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Memorials may go the First Baptist Church or Tecumseh Aquatic Association for the new swimming pool.  Online messages of condolence can be shared at www.wherrymortuary.com.  Services are entrusted to Wherry Mortuary-202 3rd St., Tecumseh, Nebraska 68450 (402) 335-2921.
