                                                          Rose T. Blumhorst

Rose T. Blumhorst was born to Michael F. and Pelagia V. (Buzynski) Jazwiec on January 24, 1916 near Platte Center, Nebraska.  She was one of fourteen children born to this union. She attended school at Platte Center and played basketball in high school.

Rose was united in marriage to Virgil C. Blumhorst on November 28, 1941 at the Post Chapel at Ft. Sell, Oklahoma.  After Virgil’s military service ended in 1946, Virgil and Rose moved to a farm southwest of Cook, Nebraska.  Rose was an active farm wife.  She enjoyed helping raise hogs, tending baby animals and loved raising flowers.  She worked along with Virgil in the many aspects of farm life.  Rose and Virgil had no children of their own, but they enjoyed keeping in touch with family and hearing updates of activities in their lives.

When Virgil was named principal of Tecumseh Jr.-Sr. High School in 1968, Virgil and Rose moved from the farm to their home in Tecumseh.   Rose was known for her love of flowers and their home was a showcase of beauty.  Rose could often be found out in the yard tending her flowers, always fighting weeds, insects and rabbits.  Among her favorite flowers were snap dragons, gladiolas and roses.  They had a greenhouse to the side of the house where she could tend her flowers over the winter.  Rose and Virgil also loved antiques and went to a lot of antique sales over the years.  Rose loved sharing her produce from her garden and often sharing flowers with others over the years.  Virgil passed away November 9, 2012.  Rose continued to live in her home until December 1, 2014 when she became a resident of Belle Terrace.  Rose passed away at Belle Terrace on August 1, 2015 at the age of 99 years.

Rose is survived by her sisters, Helen Milburn of Pueblo, CO and Mary Ann Hyde of Bellevue, many nieces and nephews and special friends Joyce and Ron Rathe of Tecumseh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Virgil, seven brothers, Alois, Frank, Albert, Adolph and three infant brothers and four sisters, Clara Prorok, Catherine Rinkol, Rita Jazwiec and Sally Jazwiec.
