Merleen Ann (Clark) Miller was born to Merrill and Irene (Walters) Clark on March 31, 1935 in Nebraska City, Nebraska.  Merleen was baptized on April 28, 1935 and confirmed on Sept. 19, 1948. She grew up near Sterling, Nebraska and graduated from Sterling High School in 1953.  She went to Peru State College for one year and earned her teaching certificate.  Merleen began teaching in a one room schoolhouse teaching grades K-8 in Vesta. She had the largest rural school in Johnson County with 21 students.
Merleen was united in marriage to Donald C. Miller on June 24, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling, Nebraska.  To this union three children were born, Sharon, Stephen and Randy.  Don and Merleen made their home north of Tecumseh where they raised their family.   Merleen was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was a 4-H Leader, church organist and was very active with the youth programs for St. John’s Lutheran Church, having taught Sunday School, VBS and confirmation classes over the years.  Merleen was a farmwife and also a substitute teacher.  She was an avid K.C. Royals and Husker sports fan.  She and Don did a lot of traveling over the years, as a family they took many vacations to the mountains. Merleen and her husband loved going to Branson, MO.  She loved raising flowers, especially her roses, loved listening to music, playing the piano and even gave piano lessons over the years.  Her family was very important to her and she was very proud of her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed attending many of their athletic events and other activities over the years. Don and Merleen met at a dance in Humboldt and “have been dancing together ever since.” They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City as she was an avid Royal fan.  Merleen was an integral part of the family farming operation and will be deeply missed.
