Welcome to the memorial page for

Margaret Mae (Loennig) Albin

May 17, 1923 ~ July 12, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Margaret Mae (Loennig) Albin, 93, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born to Harmon and M. Mabel (Furrow) Loennig on May 17, 1923, at their home in rural Humboldt, Nebraska. Margaret liked to help on the farm and often talked about driving a team of horses as she helped her father and brother tend the fields. She taught country school before marrying Joseph M. Albin on June 2, 1946.  Three children were born of their union: Thomas, John and Marian.   Like others of her generation, her life was touched by the effects of the Great Depression and World War II.  After a short stint in Omaha following the end of the war, Margaret and Joe resided in Humboldt the rest of their married life. In her heart, Humboldt was always home.

Margaret loved living on the farm, teaching and her church.  While teaching at Bratton Union, Margaret returned to college, graduating from Peru State College in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She began teaching at Pawnee City Public Schools that fall and taught 6th grade there until retirement in 1987. She loved children and teaching and continued to substitute teach at area schools for many years after retiring from the Pawnee City schools.

Margaret loved the fact that teaching school gave her time in the summer to be with her children, maintain a large garden, tend flowers and raise collie dogs. She enjoyed growing things and especially enjoyed canning the products of her garden and fruit trees, or baking delicious pies with the fruit she’d grown.  Having her grandchildren visit her on the farm was a special treat in her later years and she never tired of reading stories to them, taking them swimming or to the movies or buying them ride tickets for the fair.

An active member of the Humboldt Christian Church, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School there and served on the Board of Elders for many years. She loved to sing hymns and enjoyed singing along with the hymnists who visited Colonial Acres.  Margaret passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of ninety-three years, one month, and twenty-five days.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph; a brother Gordon (Josephine) Loennig; sisters-in-law: Frances (Marcellus) Ott and Ethel Albin.

Margaret is survived by her sons: Thomas (Julie Williams) Albin of Minneapolis, MN; John (Julie Schmit-Albin) Albin of Lincoln, NE; daughter Marian Albin (Richard) Gramlich of Gretna, NE; grandchildren: John (Shoko) Albin of Boston, MA; Molly (Alejandra Román Charfuelan) Albin of Washington, DC; Rachel (Rafael Martínez Feria) Albin of Des Moines, IA; Annie Albin of Lincoln, NE; Tanya Fox-Albin of Lincoln, NE; Nicholas Gramlich of Gretna, NE; Katie Gramlich of Gretna, NE; Michelle Gramlich (Matt) Wendt of Murdock, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
