Mabel C Pettinger

Mabel Pettinger, 93 of Steinauer, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Premier Estates in Pawnee City, Nebraska. She was born on April 24, 1924 to Michael and Anna (Gyhra) Pettinger and was the youngest of the family.

Her schooling took place at St. Anthony’s Catholic grade school and graduated from Steinauer high school in 1942.  After graduation Mabel choose to remain on the family farm to help her brother Frank with the farm work and livestock.  This arrangement lasted until her brother passed away in 2004.  Frank and Mabel took care of their mother for years, prior to entry into the nursing home.  Mabel enjoyed the outdoors, most of all the cattle.  Her other enjoyments and interests in her life were crocheting, embroidering, puzzles, reading and her cats.

Mabel also served on the Clear Creek precinct election board for several terms.  Mabel was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Steinauer, Nebraska.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Anna Pettinger, sisters Myra (Leonard) Reuter, Anne (Allen) Murphy, Agatha (Reese) Roberts, brothers Michael (Ruth) Pettinger, Frank Pettinger, brother-in-law Lloyd Botchlet, one nephew and two nieces.

Mabel is survived by her sister Florence Botchlet of Bethany, OK, 18 nieces and  nephews and other relatives.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska.  Officiating Father Michael Christensen.  Visitation on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska.
