Lou Miner Glathar

May 21, 1923 ~ April 18, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years Old


Lou Miner Glathar, 92, of Dawson, Nebraska, was born on May 21, 1923, in rural Humboldt, Nebraska to Julius and Lulu (McNeely) Glathar.  Lou grew up on the family farm north of Humboldt.  He attended Bratton Union school graduation in 1941.  In high school, Lou was an all around athlete honored by being on the Nebraska All State Football Team in 6 Man Football and named as a Little All American 6 Man Football Team.

On August 17, 1943, Lou was united in marriage to Betty Moritz by Rev. Ward Merritt in Humboldt, Nebraska.  To this union, three children; Sharon, Dwaine, and Terry were born.  Lou was a life-long farmer who enjoyed raising livestock and crops of wheat and corn and later soybeans.  He was involved with the Dawson Rural Fire Department, was a member of the Dawson United Methodist Church serving on the church board.  For several years, Lou was involved with the NRD serving on the board as a member and president at the local level and was on the State NRD Board.  He was an active blood donor for years reaching the 200 pint level.  Lou enjoyed his wife’s cooking especially her cinnamon rolls and pies.  He also liked to make home made ice cream.  Lou was always involved in his children’s activities and later was able to enjoy 8 grandchildren.  He enjoyed hunting quail with friends, sons, and son-in-laws on many a Saturday morning.                                                                                     

          Lou passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of ninety-two years, ten months, and twenty-nine days.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty, daughter Sharon Workman, brothers: Roy, Lee, Claude, Dale and Jess Glathar, sisters: Ruby Carsh, Dorothy Ast, Helen Taylor, Faye Ruse, and Elizabeth Glathar, sisters-in-law Dorothy (Vernon) Arnold and Nadine Lampe, and brother-in-law Wayne (Helen) Moritz.

Lou is survived by his sons: Dwaine (Cathie) Glathar of Fremont, NE; Terry (Carolyn) Glathar of Falls City, NE; son-in-law Jim Workman of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Teresa (Jim) Matthews of Lincoln, NE; Scott (Sonja) Workman of DeWitt, NE; Jason Workman of Beatrice, NE; Dr. Matthew (Lisa) Glathar of Lincoln, NE; Sara (Eric) Martin of Omaha, NE; Courtney (Travis) Thompson of Elkhorn, NE; Kris (Allison) Glathar of Falls City, NE; Allison Glathar of Peru, NE; great-grandchildren: Jordan and Samantha Workman, step-grandchildren Celena and Mallory Chavez, Cole, Laney, and Carson Workman, Lucy and William Glathar, Monica Eaton, Brooke and Megan Martin, Olivia and Elly Thompson, Ella, Brynna and Noah Glathar; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Dean Joy officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment will be at the Heim Cemetery in Dawson, Nebraska.

Memorials contributions may be given to family’s choice with a later designation.
