Joyce Beckman

Joyce Faye Beckman, 51, of Sterling, Nebraska, passed away on January 14, 2016 at her home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born on March 14, 1964, to Robert and Lucile Latas in Fairbury, Nebraska.

Joyce grew up in Pawnee City, Nebraska where she loved to be surrounded by friends and always knew how to enjoy life. When she was younger she enjoyed going to movies and loved to be outside whenever she could. After high school, Joyce worked various jobs but the job she enjoyed the most was working as a waitress. Joyce loved to meet new people, conversing and consoling with everyone she met. Joyce had a heart of gold and loved to be surrounded by people.

Joyce married Jeff Beckman on July 5th, 2008 with family and friends present. She enjoyed everything to do with the outdoors camping, fishing, boating, going to garage sales, four wheeling, and mushroom hunting. Joyce always had to catch the biggest fish and "said" she always did. Joyce enjoyed smoked food, especially from her son Rob; she loved his cooking. Joyce had a great love for all of her family and especially her 18 grandchildren. She loved spending time with each and everyone of them. Joyce was also very passionate about Christmas, she would make sure that she always went over the top to ensure that all of her grandchildren had more then enough to open. Joyce also had a great loved for animals as she had 3 dogs at home, Nala, Dozer and Daisy. Daisy recently had 5 puppies which Joyce loved having lie with her any chance she could.  Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Jeff Beckman of Sterling, brother, Larry & Paula Latas of Lincoln, sister, Shirley and Darrell Espe of Pawnee City, children, Robert and Amy Latas of Adams, Hannah & Dave Elmore of Polson, MT, Dezarae and Lucas Lade of Tecumseh, Amanda and TJ Petersen, Kiley and Adam Wilkinson all of Lincoln, Ashley Beckman and fiancée Andy of Elmwood, her 18 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Robert and Lucile Latas; brothers: Ed and Bill Latas and children, Krisin Rowell and Bradley Woods.

Memorial service 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Pastor Bobby Scholfield officiating. Visitation on Monday, January 18, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska, with family greeting friends form 6-8 p.m. Inurnment at the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
