Josephine Pepperl, 96 of Lincoln, Nebraska formerly of Burchard, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Gramercy Hill in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born on September 9, 1920 at rural Steinauer, Nebraska to Paul and Martha (Kamen) Conradt.
Josephine attended St. Anthony parochial grade school and Steinauer High School, graduating in 1939 at the top of her class. During her early years she was active in 4-H and later served as a leader.
After graduation from High School she was employed as a telephone operator.
Josephine married Edward Pepperl on July 25, 1945 at St. Anthony Church in Steinauer. Josephine and Edward were blessed with 7 children and celebrated 71 years of marriage. They resided in Burchard where she was employed as a postal clerk for 35 years.
Josephine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an active member of the Altar Society. She taught catechetical instruction to elementary students for 20 years and served 4 years as president of the Falls City Deanery of Catholic Women. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Josephine was an avid reader, an excellent seamstress, great cook, and was skilled at quilting, crocheting and embroidery.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Martha Conradt, her brothers and sisters; Evelyn Oehm, identical twin sister, Marie Sears, Loyola Kroll, Adrian Conradt, Clara Grof and Clement Conradt, sons-in-law, Sherman Mattison, Lee Addleman, Michael Peterson.
Josephine is survived by her husband Edward, sons, Robert (Nancy) Pepperl, Donald (Joanne) Pepperl, James (Mary) Pepperl; daughters, JoAnn Mattison, Mary Pepperl, Theresa (Kenneth) Groathouse, Catherine Peterson, thirteen grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Kenneth Kroll; sister-in-law, Wanda Conradt; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burchard, Nebraska. Officiating Father Michael Christensen. Rosary Monday, November 28, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burchard, Nebraska. Visitation Monday, November 28, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Burchard, Nebraska.
