I am so sorry for your loss. I just saw him a few months ago and he was the same old Jack, except he didn't have any apple fritters with him at the time. Every Wednesday when he came to The Journal to print The Standard he always brought apple fritters, my favorite!! What a guy! I will miss him tremendously! I'm sure he's looking down at all of us with my dad, Marge, Scott, etc., telling us all how to put the paper to bed! Love you Jack!!

Jack was a friend and someone I always enjoyed visiting with
I lived in Humboldt for a short time
And Jack always had a smile and positive way of looking at things
The last time I was in Humboldt I got
To see and visit with him
He took pride in the town and I consider myself lucky to have known him

Jack was a classmate of 1951 at Shattuck School. We renewed friendship in 2001 at our 50th reunion at Shattuck, and Jack was as I ever remember him: friendly, outgoing, generous of spirit, kind...and always with a smile. May be rest in peace.

Jack was always a great partner with our conservation and hunting programs and banquets. Always willing to donate and come to our fundraisers. He won a few guns too!

I will never forget our conversations, during the time I was Pastor at The United Methodist Church in both Humboldt & Table Rock. He seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. I am so thankful he allowed me the privilege of submitting a devotional column to The Humboldt Standard. I can still see him hauling The Standard to the Post Office for mailing to his subscribers. Jack was a very insightful and determined editor. He sure put Humboldt on the map.

What an addition Jack was to our small community. I so enjoyed the time spent with him at the Standard, Lions Club, Rotary Club and many other events and casual meetings. He will most certainly be missed and remembered. May all that love him find comfort in knowing he is going to a better place where there is no pain. God bless.

So glad he could arrange for the sale of the paper before he passed. As always a positive in the community!
